Hell-Bent explores a fascinating, often surreal world at the extremes of American yoga. Benjamin Lorr walked into his first yoga studio on a whim, overweight and curious, and quickly found the yoga reinventing his life.
Upcoming:
When an infected bolt of cloth carries plague from London to an isolated village, a housemaid named Anna Frith emerges as an unlikely heroine and healer. Through Anna's eyes we follow the story of the fateful year of 1666, as she and her fellow villagers confront the spread of disease and superstition.
The unbelievably riveting adventure of an unlikely young explorer who emerged from the jungles of Africa with evidence of a mysterious, still mythical beast—the gorilla—only to stumble straight into the center of the biggest debate of the day: Darwin's theory of evolution

Shelleyrae @ Book'd OUt
I'm looking forward to it :) It's waiting for me at the library right now! Yay :)
DeleteAs a yoga practisioner myself (what a strange word that is), I love books about yoga. I am very curious about the one you mention here, it sounds fascinating!
ReplyDelete'The pure heart of yoga' by Robery Butera is on my reading pile for this week!
Have a great reading week,
kind regards,
I don't know much about yoga but this book is very interesting! I admit to being skeptical at first ;) Thanks for stopping by Bettina!
DeleteLooks like a great week ahead! Enjoy! I'm curious about Oleander Girl...off to check your review! Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurel, same to you :)
DeleteI like Divakaruni's books but this one is new to me. Looking forward to your thoughts on this one.
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful read :) Thanks for visiting Mystica
DeleteI look forward to your review of The Guilty One, it sounds like my kind of read.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your reads this week :-)
It was twisty and dark and good! :D
DeleteThe Painted Girls seems good and I look forward to your candid review. Yoga - an exercise/lifestyle that I have deliberately avoided because I am quite certain I would fall head over heels (literally) in love with it and I know I do not have the time to devote to it. You'll have to let me know what you think of Hell Bent. That's a great title.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know the first thing about yoga when I started this book. It does sound like it becomes a complete lifestyle for people. I love the title too! ;)
DeleteGreat books this week! I have The Painted Girls and Year of Wonders on my tbr list. I'm curious about the yoga book...I started doing yoga last year and really find it not only good exercise-wise, but also great for my mental health!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
~Kristin @ Always With a Book
Thanks Kristin :) The Painted Girls was wonderful and I'm definitely looking forward to Year of Wonders!
DeleteHell-Bent looks awesome!! I love yoga. :)
ReplyDeleteYear of Wonders sounds very good as well.
Groovy cover on Hell-Bent right? ;) It's pretty interesting so far
DeleteYear of Wonders and Between Man and Beast are both books I hadn't heard of before seeing them here, and they both look like the kind of thing I typically enjoy. Thanks for highlighting them and bringing them to my attention! Have a great week :-)
ReplyDeleteYay, I love finding new books like that. That is one of the best things about blogging :) Thanks for visiting Audrey!
DeleteBetween Man and Beasts looks like a book that should go on my tbr list! ;-) I've always wanted to read something by Geraldine Brooks. I hope you enjoy Year of Wonders.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to both of them! Between Man and Beasts sounds wildly interesting to me :)
DeleteHell Bent sounds really interesting and I'm curious to see what you thought of The Painted Girls as that's one I want to read.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Kristen ;) The Painted Girls was beautiful!
DeleteHow do you read so much in one week???? :)
ReplyDeleteI read FAST! Also, I homeschool and reading time is a high priority!
DeleteI can confidently say I have never moved in a "hellbent" way :) Ha!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely reading week! What Are You Reading This Week @ The Brunette Librarian
LOL, you and me both! My joints start hurting just from reading about some of the poses in that book ;)
DeleteI like Brooks but haven't read that one....yet!!! Hell Bent- what a wild cover and I'm curious as to what your final thoughts will be on this one!
ReplyDeleteYET ;) Hell-Bent is not something I would normally pick up but it's quite interesting!
DeleteYear of Wonders is really good! And I wonder what the Classics Spin brought you...
ReplyDeleteHave a good week, Jennifer.
I can't wait to read Year of Wonders and I'm super glad to hear you liked it! I ended up with Dangerous Liaisons for my pick!
DeleteHell-Bent sounds very cool! Happy reading :) You've got some great books there.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much I'm enjoying it. A book about yoga of all things! ;)
DeleteI can't wait to read Hell-Bent. I started Bikram Yoga two years ago and it transformed my life as well (I've been on hiatus, need to get back to it). I also go to the competitions (to watch) and they are incredible. I do understand how weird it can all seem to people who aren't part of the community though!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear your thoughts on the Painted Girls as well!
I might have to pick your brains about Bikram Yoga. Reading this has me so interested in it. I'd love to try it, but omg I hate heat more than anything on this planet, lol.
DeleteYear of Wonders sounds really good to me. Adding to my wish list!!
ReplyDeleteCool, you'll have to let me know what you think of it :)
DeleteGreat diverse set of books you've got for this week! Gosh, I think I need to read Hell-bent because I'm a little obsessed with yoga :s
ReplyDeleteIt seems that people who like yoga REALLY like yoga, lol. Nothing wrong with that!
DeleteYear of Wonders in on my list for the 2013 TBR Pile, so I'll be getting to that soon {?} also! I hope it's awesome, for Both of us!! lol Thanks for visiting my post yesterday. Have a great week, you are on a roll reading-wise!!
ReplyDeleteSoon? LOL, I know just what you mean with that question mark Marie ;) I hope you have a great week of reading too!
DeleteHell Bent sounds painful - and intriguing! :P
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to read Year of Wonders. Maybe sometime this year!
The things they do with their bodies, whew! Painful is right!
DeleteI was glad to read Hell Bent is about Yoga. Haha. That was a crazy pose at first. :) Now it makes sense! Can't wait to hear more about Year of Wonders.
ReplyDeleteHa! If there are other reasons to bend yourself that way I don't want to know about them ;)
DeleteI am really curious about Hell Bent -- competitive yoga? I don't feel like those words go together?
ReplyDeleteHe talks about that a bit in the book actually. Not all yoga fans are fans of the competitions, that's for sure.
DeleteCompetitive yoga? Really? Isn't that an oxymoron?
ReplyDeleteI read Year of Wonders on my honeymoon. Yes. A story about the Black Plague as I visited Hawaii. Don't ask me what I was thinking because I still don't know.
Enjoy your week!
Newlyweds/Black Death...sounds like an appropriate mix ;) Ha ha!
DeleteThe cover of Between Man and Beast looks so cool. Kudos for reading all that non-fiction this week!
ReplyDeleteHey, I didn't even realize I had a bunch of nonfiction going on this week! I do tend to love nonfic :)
DeleteI've been meaning to read the Year of Wonders for forever. Interesting cover on Hell-Bent and then I realised what it was about lol. Have a great week and happy reading :)
ReplyDeleteI think Year of Wonders has been around for quite a while hasn't it? I hope I haven't read it before. That happens to me WAY too often ;)
DeleteBoth of your upcoming reads look fantastic! I've had Year of Wonders in my home library for years. I'll watch for your review.
ReplyDeleteSo, what book did you end up with for the Spin? I ended up with Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. It was on my neutral list so I'm fine with it. Plus, it's short so will allow for more reading next month. ;O)
Have a great week!
It sounds like Year of Wonders is one that a lot of people have been meaning to get to ;) I ended up with Dangerous Liaisons! I'm excited to read it :) I hope you enjoy your spin pick too!
DeleteAfter my two weeks of back spasms, hospitalisation, and shuffling about with a walking frame, I will not be reading Hell-bent any time soon, lol! (I will be looking into pilates, gentle yoga and massage though!) Your other two reads are more my thing - I love stories based on history. :)
ReplyDeleteJust reading about it would probably give you pain ;) Massage though? Definitely!
DeleteI had no idea there was such a thing as competitive yoga! I wonder how one could go to their calm place while being competitive. Sounds counter-intuitive. Very interesting. Thanks so much for introducing me to something new :)
ReplyDeleteHe does talk about the difference between "regular" yoga and the things they do in competitions. I believe they are trying to get yoga into the Olympics so...they have to compete! ;)
DeleteGreat selection of books you have there and Hell Bent just made me burst out laughing that cover is awesome!
ReplyDeleteAs for the RDJ love - much appreciated and everyone deserves a bit of RDJ love! :D
Thanks ;) Isn't that cover amazing? Ouch! ;)
